WHAT IS THE PODCAST PROJECT?
THE PODCAST PROJECT is an artistic experiment based on the notion that audio performance has not been fully tapped in the United States and barely tapped within the realm of the podcast. During a stint of unemployment, audio theater downloaded to my MP3 player and played during walks in the woods was a source of wondrous solace and diversion.
But I'm convinced that audio performance is not merely a source of simple amusement. Performance, arriving in an audio-only format and shedding the preconceived interpretation that comes with costumes, make-up and sets can establish a very special connection with the listener. It can strip the performance down to its bear essentials and radiate a power perhaps missed in a less intimate space.
